With health authorities in Europe and other regions working to roll out vaccines and drugs to control the biggest Monkeypox outbreak beyond Africa, several doctors have acknowledged the ugly reality of the African population not using the decade-long available resources to stamp out the disease.

Britain, Spain, Portugal, the US, and several other countries have reported more than 250 Monkeypox cases. However, no deaths have been reported till now. Authorities have identified the two recent waves in Europe associated with sexual activity. According to US Govt. officials, 700 doses of the vaccine have been released in states where cases were reported. However, such measures were not employed in Africa. Dr. Adesola Yinka-Ogunleye stated that there are no vaccines or anti-viral medicines available against monkeypox in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the African continent has reported more than 5 times as many cases this year. 1400 monkeypox cases and 63 deaths have been reported in 4 countries where Monkeypox is endemic, Cameroon, Nigeria, Congo, and the Central African republic.
